If you’ve been overwhelmed by the make-money-online-by-blogging parade, chances are you’ve overlooked other ways to earn money off the Internet.

Blogs may be great, but you may want to consider these “10 Websites You Should Have”:

1. Web Directory/Search Engine - You should have a web directory/search engine, although there are already a million out there. Get a catchy, short domain for a web directory/search engine for easy recall. A web directory requires work only in the initial stages of populating it with categories and entries (your own websites or blogs included), but with savvy marketing on your part, webmasters will start submitting their URLs and your job is only to approve or disapprove them. You may allow Free URL submission (to build up the directory), require a linkback (for PR) or charge a fee. A good and popular script for a web directory is PHP Link Directory.

2. File Hosting - Rapidshare, Megaupload and YouSendit. What do they have in common and why are they so popular? They allow users to upload and share files. 3. Video Sharing - let’s call it your own YouTube clone. User-generated content. You only job is to promote the site, and approve/disapprove videos. YouTube clone scripts include VShare ($10!), ClipShare, Rayzz, or Alstrasoft’s VideoShare.

6. Social Networking - build your own myspace-like community around a niche. Commercial scripts include PHPFox, AlstraSoft eFriends, HandShakes, and AbleDating. Open source solutions include Dolphin, PhpIzabi, andElgg.

7. Gaming/Arcade - Flash games keep users glued to a website for hours. A good way to promote your affiliate links. Commercial arcade scripts include GetMyOwnArcade, ArcadeBuilder, AdvancedArcade, and PHPArcadeScript. A free open source script is PNFlashGames, which integrates with PostNuke, Joomla, PHPNuke and Vbulletin.

8. Fun/Humor Site - Most people go on the Net just to pass time. Jokes, funny pictures and funny videos keep people coming back to a site and give exposure to advertisers.

9. Celebrity Galleries - Celebrities make news and they make money. Get some of it. Gallery scripts include Coppermine, Gallery, and PhotoPost.

10. Lyrics site - Lyrics sites are one of the top money-making sites. Allow users to submit lyrics to build up your database. People love music. You may want to take a look at LyricsV3 Engine.
