1and1 raises domain reg fee by a dollar

1and1 raises domain1and1, the giant domain registrar known for its cheap domain registration rates, has announced that it was raising its fees by a dollar in order to stay competitive.

“It has become necessary for us o increase the rates for some domains due to price increases by the major domain registries,” 1and1 said in an email sent to clients this morning.

For domain renewals and orders as of November 2, 2007, the following domain
rates will apply:

* .com, .net, .us, .org, .info, .name domains will be increased from $5.99
to $6.99 per year

Despite the increase, I still find 1and 1 cheaper than other popular registrars like, say Godaddy, which charges $9.99 per year (except .info).

1and1 also offers free private registration which other registrars normally charges for an additional fee.

Low profits: Foxtons closing operations

foxtons.jpgFoxtons, a real estate listing service in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area known for its low commissions, has announced it is closing its operations because of the natjonwide housing slump. While other agencies charged as much as 6-percent commission on sales, Foxtons only charges 4 percent. With such low profits, it would have to sell a large quantity of inventory to stay in business; but with home sales going on a downturn, its business model is in a bad time.

The company will let go 350 of its 380 employees and work on a skeleton staff as it slowly cleans out its inventory of 4,000 plus listings.

Foxtons has recently gone on a huge advertising splash, spending close to $12 million a year on television, radio and billboard ads. It even used buses, bus shelters and subway platform ads to attract customers.

Its agents go around on company-owned Mini Coopers emblazoned with the Foxtons logo.

Theinternetexperiment.com: Domain and Blog for sale

A two-month old blog about blogging is now up on sale on eBay.

internet-experiment.JPG

Andrew, the blogger at TheInternetExperiment, says the blog has potential but he simply doesn’t have the time anymore. Although he did not announce the auction/sale of his blog, his latest blog post says he’s been very busy lately. The blog started on July 10, 2007.

Says Andrew in the auction [auction link here]:

I started this blog as an experiment. The original purpose was for me to document my online money making experience. The blog has done pretty well for itself, for only being 2 months old… The site has a lot of potential but I simply don’t have the time anymore.

Latest blog stats shows around 120 uniques and 350 page views a day, with 30 RSS subscribers. It’s current Technorati Authority is 59. It has a total of 1247 backlinks [according to Googleizer.com]. Minimum bid is $199.

BloggingProfits.com wishes Andrew well in his future internet experiments, and good luck with the auction. He put in a lot of effort in his two-month blog, as shown by the impressive stats.

Running even one blog takes a lot of time, taking into factor the additional social networking you have to do.
