1and1 raises domain reg fee by a dollar

1and1 raises domain1and1, the giant domain registrar known for its cheap domain registration rates, has announced that it was raising its fees by a dollar in order to stay competitive.

“It has become necessary for us o increase the rates for some domains due to price increases by the major domain registries,” 1and1 said in an email sent to clients this morning.

For domain renewals and orders as of November 2, 2007, the following domain
rates will apply:

* .com, .net, .us, .org, .info, .name domains will be increased from $5.99
to $6.99 per year

Despite the increase, I still find 1and 1 cheaper than other popular registrars like, say Godaddy, which charges $9.99 per year (except .info).

1and1 also offers free private registration which other registrars normally charges for an additional fee.
